Unforgiveness is a funny thing. When someone hurts you it seems like it’s a good thing to build a wall against them. In fact, it seems like that wall is going to protect you from future issues. But in reality the opposite happens.

In fact Matthew 6:14-15 states:

For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.’

We cannot afford not to forgive others as we have already been forgiven by our Heavenly Father for our sins. The great irony of unforgiveness is that it blocks our blessings and it doesn’t affect the other person we don’t forgive.

In essence we are holding onto to something that, while it may have hurt us, provides no benefit in God’s economy.

In man’s economy vengeance and holding grudges is a sign of strength. But in God’s economy no transactions are performed with the malice of unforgiveness.

Please stop and consider anyone you may not have forgiven. Maybe it’s something that happened years ago or maybe it happened yesterday. Drop to your knees and pray for your heart that you may let go of the hurt you are holding onto.
