Have you ever put together something complex?

Maybe it was your child’s toy, a piece of furniture, or a home gym set.

Once you opened the box and dumped everything out you probably looked for the instructions on how everything fit together.

The funny thing is if you look at the box and see a picture of the fully assembled product it doesn’t always seem to match the instructions given.

There are many times when the first few steps of the instructions don’t seem make any sense in conjunction with assembling the finished product.

While the resulting action of those initial steps may not be visible they are vitally important to ensure the product is correctly assembled.

Paul talks about the importance of not confusing visibility with significance in 1 Corinthians 12:22-27

On the contrary, the parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, and on those parts of the body that we think less honorable we bestow the greater honor, and our unpresentable parts are treated with greater modesty, which our more presentable parts do not require. But God has so composed the body, giving greater honor to the part that lacked it, that there may be no division in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one another. If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, all rejoice together.

Just as every step is required and has equal importance when assembling a product so to is following every instruction to stay on track with God’s purpose for your life.

Even the instructions that don’t make sense or seem insignificant based on your current position in life.

Proverbs 16:9 says:

The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.

So even when the directions God is giving us seem to be taking us off course keep in mind that following God’s instructions will always leave you fully assembled to fulfill your purpose in life.
