Trash Talk
Talking trash is definitely a big part of sports. Whether it be a long three pointer, a long bomb for a touchdown, or a long ball that leaves the ballpark for a home run, the celebratory antics that follow often become part of the highlight.
Perhaps it’s the athlete beating their chest, motioning to the crowd, or at times a direct gesture or spoken word to the opponent that lets them know they have been bested in that moment.
In this context, an individual’s personal achievement is used as a way to boast and bring glory to oneself.
In Jeremiah 9:23-24, a declaration of Who we should boast in is revealed:
This is what the Lord says: Let not the wise boast of their wisdom or the strong boast of their strength or the rich boast of their riches, but let the one who boasts boast about this:
That they have the understanding to know me, that I am the Lord, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight,” declares the Lord.
Boasting about the goodness of God is the best trash talk.
Prayer: Lord let me tell the world about how good You’ve been to me. In a world full of self-adulation I brag on Your abundant goodness and mercy.
Action: Take a moment to celebrate God. Brag to someone you know about how good God is and all He has done for you.
