Lasting Legacy
The Los Angeles Lakers recently won the 2020 NBA Championship over the Miami Heat.
In a year of unexpected tragedy in which Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna perished in a helicopter crash, the Lakers winning the NBA title seemed like a fitting way to honor the memory of the late, great Laker legend.
As the confetti fell and champagne flowed in celebration, several players on the Lakers openly admitted they wanted to win for Kobe to be able to carry on his legacy of winning and excellence.
In 2nd Kings 2:1-4, David instructs his son Solomon on how to leave a lasting legacy:
When David’s time to die drew near, he commanded Solomon his son, saying, “I am about to go the way of all the earth. Be strong, and show yourself a man, and keep the charge of the Lord your God, walking in his ways and keeping his statutes, his commandments, his rules, and his testimonies, as it is written in the Law of Moses, that you may prosper in all that you do and wherever you turn, that the Lord may establish his word that he spoke concerning me, saying, ‘If your sons pay close attention to their way, to walk before me in faithfulness with all their heart and with all their soul, you shall not lack a man on the throne of Israel.’
Following the Lord and His commands is the only way to build a legacy that will last.
Prayer: Lord we hear the talk about leaving a legacy all the time. But the truth of the matter is the only legacy worth having is the one that You provide. Lord help me to walk in righteousness and honor You in all of my ways.
Action: What kind of legacy are you going to leave behind? Is it based on material wealth or worldly possessions? Pray and ask God what kind of legacy He wants you to leave behind and follow His instructions.
