The Final Decision
In an episode of X-men the Animated Series, titled The Final Decision, the X-men battle against a dangerous army of mutant killing robots known as the sentinels.
Magneto, who often opposes Charles Xavier’s peaceful approach to mutant human relations, finds himself in an odd position.
With the X-men facing long odds against the sentinels, Magneto lends his assistance to help the X-men and save Charles Xavier from certain death.
Upon saving Charles Xavier, Magneto remarks: ‘ Did you think I would let you die alone, Xavier?’
In that moment Magneto understood that standing with his friend was more important than arguing the philosophical differences they had.
In Colossians 3:12-14, Paul also addresses how to be gracious to those in the body of Christ who have different viewpoints:
Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony.”
Make the decision not to let your difference of political opinion or worldview cause division in the body of Christ.
Prayer: Lord, we know right now there are faithful Christians on both sides of the spectrum politically. Let us be patient and not judge those who have a different worldview than we do. Let us celebrate together why we have a hope and a freedom that You have given us through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, our Lord.
Action: It’s ok to disagree but don’t sow hate. It’s ok to table a discussion on issues you can’t come to a consensus on. More importantly pray for a Godly perspective so you can view difficult situations as God does.
