In the 1984 Movie, The Karate Kid, Daniel LaRusso seeks to learn how to defend himself after being bullied.

Mr. Miyagi agrees to train Daniel after rescuing him following a violent encounter with his classmates.

Daniel is initially disappointed as he is assigned menial tasks, including waxing Mr. Miyagi’s car.

One day a frustrated Daniel is finally engaged by Mr. Miyagi who demonstrates that through the various chores Daniel has developed a foundation for self defense through the repetition of certain movements.

In Deuteronomy 11:18-20 Moses stresses the importance of continually following God’s commands to the people of Israel:

Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.

The road to God’s revelation for your life is a spiritual journey of repetition.

Prayer: Lord Jesus place a burden on my heart to stay in relationship with You everyday. Let me pray continually, study your word consistently, and most importantly be Your example continuously.

Action: Take inventory of your prayer life, bible study habits, generosity (time/talent/treasure), and fellowship with other believers. Could you put forth a more consistent effort in some or all of these areas? Ask God to show you where you need to seek more of His presence.
