Last week the most decorated and well renowned gymnast, Simone Biles, withdrew from the team Olympic competition.
Citing mental health concerns Biles decided it best not to continue.
After her decision, Biles received much support from former and current Olympic athletes.
Many recalled the pressure faced when great expectations were thought to be met with ease.
Psalms 55:22 reminds us that when our trouble is greatest we can call on the Lord:
Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.
Likewise in Matthew 11:28-30 we see Jesus welcome those who are burdened into His presence:
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
It’s time to bring your burdens to Jesus.
Prayer: Lord, I am sorry that I’ve been carrying burdens that were never meant for me. Today I bring my burdens and troubles to You in exchange for Your peace which surpasses all understanding.
Action: Letting go of your burdens won’t happen overnight. If you’re like me you’ve gotten used to carrying them. Ask God to help you recognize the burdens you’ve been carrying unnecessarily so you can exchange them for peace.
