In an episode of X-Men: The Animated Series titled Obsessed, Warren Worthington (Archangel) seeks vengeance against Apocalypse for attempting to enslave him as one of his apocalyptic horsemen.
Driven by his extreme desire for revenge, Worthington spares no expense in his attempts to uncover a weakness that will allow him to destroy the seemingly invincible Apocalypse.
Apocalypse scoffs at Worthington’s attempts to destroy him and in response defiantly declares:
There is no Freedom from me, there is only freedom through me.
In John 8:31-36 Jesus explains to a group of Jewish unbelievers how to gain true freedom:
To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
They answered him, “We are Abraham’s descendants and have never been slaves of anyone. How can you say that we shall be set free?”
Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.
True freedom is found only in Christ.
Prayer: Lord thank You for setting me free. All freedom is in Your Word and Your Ways. I rejoice and praise Your mighty name because I am no longer trapped by sin.
Action: What areas of your life need to be set free? Ask the Lord to show and free you from the places where you are trapped in bondage.
