Last week I had an interesting conversation with the contractor who was doing some work on my home.
Recently his company won a large contract with a landlord who has over 700 properties.
He mentioned that many of the properties were in poor condition due to shoddy upkeep.
There also seemed to be a correlation between those who were renting and the state of their properties.
It seemed that without the direct responsibility of ownership many tenants had no concern on what happened to their property even though it was their dwelling place.
In 1 Corinthians 6:15,19-20: Paul warns the church of Corinth about the responsibilty of maintaining holiness in our physical bodies:
Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ himself?
Shall I then take the members of Christ and unite them with a prostitute?
Never!
Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God?
You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.
Kingdom tenancy requires full acknowledgment of God’s ownership.
Prayer: Lord, I repent for the things I have thought, said, and done in this body. I brought dishonor to Your Name with my actions. Please allow me to redeem myself and bring honor to Your Name for the rest of my days.
Action: We’ve all been bad tenants, but God is merciful. Take some time this week and meditate on how to make your body a more hospitable dwelling place for The Holy Spirit.
