Last week my wife and my daughter made rainbow colored cupcakes for St. Patrick’s Day.
One night as my daughter was eating one of her cupcakes I poured her a glass of milk to go alongside.
Much to her delight she drank the milk and asked me if there was any special reason I gave it to her.
I simply smiled and said: “Because I’m your dad and I love you”.
In Matthew 7:7-11, Jesus addresses the expectation we should have with regard to receiving gifts from our heavenly Father:
Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.
Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone?
Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent?
If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!
When you abide in the Lord, He will provide all that you ask and more.
Prayer: Lord, thank You for providing me with all that I need and more. I know sometimes I haven’t been grateful for all You have done and today I repent for that. Allow me to give generously to others the very things you have given in abundance to me.
Action: In Greek the word abide is meno. This indicates a close, intimate (and permanent) relationship between the believer and God. This week read John 15:1-8. Does your relationship with Jesus reflect what is described in this scripture?
