A couple of weeks ago I was giving an online presentation about Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.

After my presentation a woman said she appreciated the information I shared, but felt like it was a scam because of her previous investment experience with Bitcoin.

I explained to her that Bitcoin by itself cannot be a scam, it is simply an algorithm whose function must adhere to its programming, but it is possible for people to layer a system on top of the original function to produce a fraudulent outcome.

Even though she graciously listened to my explanation, her response made it clear that her previous experience with Bitcoin had permanently tainted her view.

In Matthew 16:5-7,11-12 Jesus warns His disciples about those seeking to contort the Word of God for their own purposes:

When they went across the lake, the disciples forgot to take bread. “Be careful,” Jesus said to them. “Be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees.”

They discussed this among themselves and said, “It is because we didn’t bring any bread.”

How is it you don’t understand that I was not talking to you about bread? But be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees.”

Then they understood that he was not telling them to guard against the yeast used in bread, but against the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.

Take every measure to rebuke any teaching that distorts the Word of God.

Prayer: Lord, we celebrate Your Word for it is good. Let us guard our heart against false teaching and reveal to us beliefs about Your Word where we may be in error. Give us a sound mind and spirit to hear and receive good teaching of Your Word.

Action: Besides Jesus, no one has ever walked the earth with perfect understanding and application of God’s Word. This week ask God to show you the areas where you have deviated from the original intent of His Word.
