Last week I was in Chicago meeting up with some good friends and we decided to go on a kayak excursion.
I had never been kayaking before and I assumed I could figure it out on the fly.
Unfortunately, I struggled to keep pace with the group and ended up cap sizing my kayak in the Chicago River.
Fortunately, one of the tour guides assisted me in emptying the water from my kayak so I could re-enter it and finish the excursion.
My friends had a good laugh at my expense, but I was grateful for their encouragement and support after such an embarrassing moment.
The author of Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 understands the importance of not being alone when facing adversity:
Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor:
If either of them falls down, one can help the other up.
But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up.
Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm.
But how can one keep warm alone?
Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves.
A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.
God did not create us to face adversity alone.
Prayer: Lord, help us to avoid isolation when facing adversity. Help us to find Godly community who will support us when we face difficult situations.
