Kevyn Samuels was an internet personality and image consultant who rose to popularity for his controversial takes on women’s appearances and relationship standards.

One of his most notable interviews included an exchange with a woman, who after laying out her credentials of why a man would find her desirable, concluded with Kevyn Samuels flatly telling the woman she was ‘average at best’.

In Matthew 6:25-30 Jesus illustrates that we are so much more than average to God:

That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear.

Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing? Look at the birds.

They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them.

And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are?

Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?

And why worry about your clothing?

Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are.

And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you.

Why do you have so little faith?

There is nothing average about God’s love for you.

Prayer: Lord thank You for not seeing me as average despite my shortcomings. Thank You for loving me unconditionally and making the sacrifice that has redeemed my life eternally.

Action: Have you ever felt average in any area of your life? The next time you feel inadequate about something remember that God’s love for you eclipses any proficiency you could ever hope to attain in any discipline.
