In 2013, Canadian band MAGIC! debuted with their international hit song Rude.

The lyrics of the song describe a man’s desperate plea for his girlfriend’s hand in marriage despite her father’s unceremonious dismissal of their courtship.

Saturday mornin’, jumped out of bed
And put on my best suit
Got in my car and raced like a jet
All the way to you

Knocked on your door with heart in my hand
To ask you a question
‘Cause I know that you’re an old fashioned man
Yeah (yeah)

Can I have your daughter for the rest of my life?
Say yes, say yes, ’cause I need to know
You say I’ll never get your blessin’ ’til the day I die”
Tough luck, my friend, but the answer is no”

Why you gotta be so rude?
Don’t you know I’m human too?
Why you gotta be so rude?
I’m gonna marry her anyway
(Marry that girl) marry her anyway
(Marry that girl) yeah, no matter what you say
(Marry that girl) and we’ll be a family
Why you gotta be so rude?

In Isaiah 65:1-5,8-10, we read that God has not stopped pursuing the nation of Israel even after they have rejected Him:

I revealed myself to those who did not ask for me;
I was found by those who did not seek me.
To a nation that did not call on my name,
I said, ‘Here am I, here am I.’

 All day long I have held out my hands to an obstinate people,
who walk in ways not good, pursuing their own imaginations—
a people who continually provoke me  to my very face,
offering sacrifices in gardens and burning incense on altars of brick;
who sit among the graves and spend their nights keeping secret vigil;
who eat the flesh of pigs,and whose pots hold broth of impure meat;
who say, ‘Keep away; don’t come near me, for I am too sacred for you!’

Such people are smoke in my nostrils, a fire that keeps burning all day.

This is what the Lord says:

“As when juice is still found in a cluster of grapes and people say,
‘Don’t destroy it, there is still a blessing in it,’
so will I do in behalf of my servants;
I will not destroy them all.

I will bring forth descendants from Jacob, and from Judah those who will possess my mountains; my chosen people will inherit them,and there will my servants live.

Sharon will become a pasture for flocks, and the Valley of Achor a resting place for herds, for my people who seek me.

Despite our rejection, God pursues us anyway.

Prayer: Lord, I repent for pushing you away. Thank You for pursuing me anyway. Your faithfulness meets my every need.

Action: What is God pursuing you to do? Have you been ignoring His calls? Don’t be rude, take a moment to find out where God is leading you.
