A standard (non-dwarf) apple tree takes at least 4 years to begin producing fruit. However, once it begins to bear fruit it can do so for 3 decades. In 2020, the oldest apple tree in recorded history died at the ripe old age of 194. In Luke 13:6-9 Jesus tells the parable about a fig tree that had not yet produced what was expected: Then he told this parable: “A man had a fig tree growing in his vineyard, and he went to look for fruit on it but did not find any. So he said to the man who took care of the vineyard, ‘For three years now I’ve been coming to look for fruit on this fig tree and haven’t found any. Cut it down! Why should it use up the soil?’ “‘Sir,’ the man replied, ‘leave it alone for one more year, and I’ll dig around it and fertilize it. If it bears fruit next year, fine! If not, then cut it down.’” When you remain in the Lord you will produce a harvest in due season. |
Prayer |
Lord Thank You! Too often I have looked at what I haven’t accomplished and the mistakes I’ve made instead of focusing on You. For we know those who abide in You will reap a harvest at the proper time. Give us the patience and wisdom to see the harvest season come to pass in our lives. |
Action |
What areas of your life do you feel are stagnant? (job, marriage, finances) Ask God to give you a focus to sow into these areas so you can reap the benefit at the proper time. |
DID YOU KNOW? – BREAK BREAD TRIVIA |
The old adage ‘An Apple a Day Keeps the Doctor Away‘ is not totally factual. Regular visits to your doctor are the best way to get preventative care for potential health issues. However, apples are a great source of fiber, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. In particular, vitamin C functions as an antioxidant to combat disease-causing free radicals and other toxic substances. |
