For many listeners, the song Candy Rain evokes either the feelings or memories of what it feels like when someone first finds love.

The first verse portrays a love so intense it appears that the person is willing to give anything to sustain it:

Have you ever loved someone
So much you thought you’d die?
Giving so much of yourself
It seems the only way
Tell me what you want and I
And I will give it to you

In Philippians 2:5-11: Paul describes a love where nothing was held back:

Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.

And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.

Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

The love of Jesus transcends human understanding.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank You for Your sacrifice.

Though we cannot fully appreciate all You have done for us, we are grateful.

Let our hearts be full today knowing that You have already given us more than we can ask, think, or imagine.

Amen.

Action

Do you remember what it felt like when you first fell in love?

Those feelings, no matter how intense, eventually fade.

This week take a moment to realize that God’s love for you never dims or grows weary despite our missteps.

This week rejoice each day that you serve a merciful and loving God.
