‘Obey Your Thirst’ is widely known as the iconic tagline for the soft drink, Sprite.

The phrase, created in 1994 by the creative team at Lowe and Partners, launched Sprite into prominence among a generation who identified with the quippy mantra.

Not surprisingly, Sprite has recently launched a new campaign focused on the current generation with, you guessed it, the same tagline.

In John 4:7-15,25-26 Jesus explains how to satisfy your spiritual thirst:

When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her, “Will you give me a drink?”

The Samaritan woman said to him, “You are a Jew and I am a Samaritan woman. How can you ask me for a drink?”

Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.”

“Sir,” the woman said, “you have nothing to draw with and the well is deep. Where can you get this living water?

Are you greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did also his sons and his livestock?”

Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst.

Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water so that I won’t get thirsty and have to keep coming here to draw water.”

The woman said, “I know that Messiah” (called Christ) “is coming. When he comes, he will explain everything to us.”

Then Jesus declared, “I, the one speaking to you—I am he.”

Your spiritual thirst can only be satisfied by Jesus.

Prayer

Lord, Jesus we are grateful.

We know You are the water of life.

Remove our desire to quench our spiritual thirst with the temptations of sin and the world.

Let us rest fully in Your Word without wavering.

Amen.

Action

Sometimes with all the choices it can be easy to have our thirst satisfied by things that are not God’s Word.

Everyday this week replace at least 15 minutes of social media or television with prayer time dedicated solely to hearing from God.

DID YOU KNOW? – BREAK BREAD TRIVIA

There is an age old question of how much water people should drink each day.

The general rule is 1 oz per 2 pounds of body weight.

Put more simply, you should drink half of your body weight in ounces of water per day.
