About 10 years ago Ally Bank aired a commercial where they gave a suitcase containing 100,000 dollars to complete strangers and then asked them to watch it.
Many of the strangers reluctantly accepted the suitcase and watched it cautiously.
During the commercial we are told that none of the strangers took any money from the suitcase.
The narrator concludes the commercial with a compelling statement.
‘If your bank takes more money than a stranger, you need an ally‘.
In John 15:14-16 Jesus testifies that He has allied Himself with humanity, thus imputing His righteousness on those who believe:
You are my friends if you do what I command. I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.
No matter what life brings, Jesus is the one ally you can always count on.
Prayer: Lord, help me to rely on you during this season. Even though friends and family may fall away and disappoint me, I know that You are with me always. Give me peace to rest in the truth of Your word that never fails.
Action: This week, lean in a little closer to Jesus. Talk to Him like your friend. Ask Him how He’s doing and what He wants to do in your life.
