Recently my co-worker retired after 40 years of being a government contractor. During his last few weeks he maintained great focus and was able to complete several tasks that were critical to the team’s future success. In a thank you card he received from the office many people recognized his effort and thanked him for a job well done. In Matthew 25:14-17,19-23 Jesus shares the importance of stewarding your talent with the time you’ve been given: “For it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted to them his property. To one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one, to each according to his ability. Then he went away. He who had received the five talents went at once and traded with them, and he made five talents more. So also he who had the two talents made two talents more. Now after a long time the master of those servants came and settled accounts with them. And he who had received the five talents came forward, bringing five talents more, saying, ‘Master, you delivered to me five talents; here, I have made five talents more.’ His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’ And he also who had the two talents came forward, saying, ‘Master, you delivered to me two talents; here, I have made two talents more.’ His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master. In all things seek to bring glory to God with your talents. |
Prayer |
Lord, thank You for the many gifts you have bestowed upon me. I pray that I would use my gifts in a way that brings You honor and glory. Let me never worship my gift but always the One who gave it to me. Amen. |

We all like to hear that we are doing a good job. This week stop and ask how are you doing with the gifts and talents He’s given you. Wait for His answer and know that God is pleased with you because You are His child not because of what you have accomplished. |

Matthew 25:18,24-30 illustrates what happens when we don’t use our gifts in a way that brings glory to God. |
