What does it look like to seek God?

For many people a certain number of devotionals read, tithes given, or hours serving might constitute a definition of seeking God.

But lets dig deeper into the scripture text of Hebrews 11:6 to get a clearer picture.

Now without faith it is impossible to please God, for the one who draws near to Him must believe that He exists and rewards those who seek Him.

The Greek word for seek, zéteó, is defined as to seek by inquiring; to investigate to reach a binding (terminal) resolution; to search, “getting to the bottom of a matter”.

In other words seeking God can’t simply be categorized or relegated to a number of Godly tasks.

While it may include some of the aforementioned things (serving, tithing, study) seeking God is a posture that causes you go after your Creator in such a way that discovering His Purpose for your life becomes the only reason for your existence.

Don’t worry if that sounds scary, seeking God is not a burden.

In fact, seeking God and bringing Him into all parts of your life will allow Him to transform every area of your life (marriage, children, career, etc) in a way that brings you honor and brings Him glory.

The good news you can start seeking God right now.

Take a moment and ask God to identify the place(s) in your life that you’ve been reluctant to let Him into.
