I might be dating myself here, but there was a time when some of my favorite shows were on VHS tapes.
And the only way you could play said tapes were on VCRs.
One of my favorite shows that I recorded on VHS was the Transformers.
Sometimes I would fast forward through other episodes and commercials to watch my favorite episodes.
Being able to fast forward to my favorite episode allowed me to enjoy what I wanted immediately.
Sometimes in life when we ask God what His will is for our life we are implicitly asking Him ‘Can you just fast forward to the good part?’.
But James 1:4 says
Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.
Furthermore Proverbs 20:24 states:
A person’s steps are directed by the Lord. How then can anyone understand their own way?
So how do we stay patient and wait on the Lord while waiting to walk in the purpose He has declared for our lives?
The answer is a simple one.
Do the next thing.
Ecclesiastes 3:11 says
He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.
I believe that God has given us all a glimpse of what is to come as we walk with Him in this life.
But the truth of the matter is we won’t be ready for what God has for us if we don’t allow him to develop us through the mundane and ordinary tasks of life.
This process allows us to be refined and submitted so that when God elevates us He gets the glory.
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
