In the final installment of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Return of the King, we see Aragorn crowned king.
Always the rightful heir to the throne, Aragorn was not welcomed by rival kings and stewards.
They felt that Aragorn’s decision to pursue a path as a ranger forfeited his claim to be king.
In reality, it was Aragorn’s choice to become a wandering protector of the land that allowed him to acquire the resources needed to defeat the enemy and reunite the kingdoms of men.
In Philippians 2:5-11 the humility of Jesus is on full display:
Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
By renouncing His claim to the throne, Jesus reconciled all of mankind back to God.
Prayer: Jesus thank You for taking a low position so I could take an elevated one. Let me spend my life lifting others up to the Father as You have done for us.
Action: Take a low position and serve someone close to you in way you have never done before. Let your love elevate them towards the Father.
