Growing up I always loved watching the Olympics.
Even today, I still marvel as athletes push their bodies to the limit of human endurance to achieve victory.
If the physical challenges of competing in the Olympics weren’t enough, athletes also must overcome the mental hurdle of knowing that failure on the biggest stage could be their only opportunity since the Olympics only happen every four years.
In life there are times that no amount of training can prepare us for the obstacles we have to face and to overcome them would be impossible in our own strength.
In 2 Corinthians 12:7b-10 Paul shares his challenges to overcome a stumbling block and the resolution the Lord provides:
Therefore, in order to keep me from becoming conceited, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
No matter how much you train, Christ’s power will always be your greatest strength.
Prayer: Lord thank You! There is power in the name of Jesus, so much power in the name! Let us not wrestle alone with things we should bring to You. Arrest our hearts and turn them to You in our times of trouble.
Action: What obstacle is standing in your way that you haven’t been able to overcome? Are you relying on our own strength? Call on the name of Jesus and watch Him work. He is the provider for all of your needs.
