In the 1986 animated series The Real Ghostbusters, the Boogeyman was one of the most frightening and deadly enemies in the show’s canon.

Feeding off of fear, the Boogeyman grew in strength as he terrorized helpless children (and sometimes adults).

The Ghostbusters realized the key to defeating the Boogeyman was to help those who were afraid to overcome their fear.

The Boogeyman had no power where there was no fear.

In 1 John 4:15-18 we see that fear cannot coexist with the presence of God:

If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in them and they in God.

And so we know and rely on the love God has for us.

God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world we are like Jesus.

There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.

When we abide in Jesus there is no room for fear.

Prayer: Lord, thank You for Your love. No matter what obstacles I am facing I will not fear, for You are with me always.

Action: Everyone is afraid of something. This week talk to God about your biggest fears and listen for His response. Know that He loves you.
