I’m never gonna dance again
Guilty feet have got no rhythm
Though it’s easy to pretend
I know you’re not a fool
Should’ve known better than to cheat a friend
And waste a chance that I’ve been given
So I’m never gonna dance again
The way I danced with you.
Written by George Michael and Andrew Ridegely in 1984, the song Careless Whisper has sold over 6 million copies and topped music charts worldwide.
In this famous refrain George Michael openly laments his transgression and wonders if his chance for true love has been lost forever.
The author of Lamentations 3:15-25 sorrowfully wonders if the Lord has abandoned him because of his current affliction:
He has filled me with bitterness and given me a bitter cup of sorrow to drink. He has made me chew on gravel.
He has rolled me in the dust. Peace has been stripped away, and I have forgotten what prosperity is.
The thought of my suffering and homelessness is bitter beyond words.
I will never forget this awful time, as I grieve over my loss.
Yet I still dare to hope when I remember this:
The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease.
Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning.
I say to myself, “The Lord is my inheritance; therefore, I will hope in him!”
The Lord is good to those who depend on him, to those who search for him.
Whatever you’re facing, the love of God will never forsake you.
Prayer: Lord many times I’ve felt unworthy of Your love and Your promises. Forgive me for doubting Your love for me. Help me to overcome the difficulties I’m facing and live in the abundance You have for me.
Action: We all experience trials. This week get in prayer and ask God what He is trying to develop in you during these trials. Know that His love is sufficient.
