One of the last video games I played regularly was Arkham City.

In Arkham City Batman infiltrates a walled off part of Gotham that is effectively acting as a penal colony for criminals and derelict individuals.

As Batman starts to uncover what is at the heart of a dark secret in the city his mission becomes sidetracked by what seem to be an unending number of unrelated side quests.

Not coincidentally by the time you reach the final stage, the experience gained through those ‘side quests’ becomes essential for Batman to overcome the challenge he is facing.

In James 1:2-4: James, the brother of Jesus, implores believers to embrace the challenges that this life brings:

Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness.

And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing
.

The trials you face and overcome in this life will forge your eternal character.

Prayer: Lord, lately I have been going through many trials. Help me not just to get through these difficult times, but to develop into the person you want me to be through overcoming these challenges.

Action: What trials are you facing currently? Take a moment and write them down. Then pray and ask God what He might be trying to develop in you through these trials. Write the responses down as He answers.
