In the second part of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Two Towers, we are introduced to a mysterious and giant race of trees known as the Ents.
By nature they are peaceful and rarely engage in conflict with the outside world.
After a surprise encounter with a group of hobbits the Ents begin to realize there is a dark force bringing an inevitable war to all life on Middle Earth.
While Treebeard, the leader of the Ents, ponders the situation one of the hobbits asks him whose side is he on?
Treebeard replies: “Side? I am on nobody’s side, because nobody is on my side, little [hobbit].”
In Joshua 5:13-15, Joshua too has a surprise encounter:
Once when Joshua was by Jericho, he looked up and saw a man standing before him with a drawn sword in his hand. Joshua went to him and said to him, “Are you one of us, or one of our adversaries?”
He replied, “Neither; but as commander of the army of the Lord I have now come.”
And Joshua fell on his face to the earth and worshiped, and he said to him, “What do you command your servant, my lord?”
The commander of the army of the Lord said to Joshua, “Remove the sandals from your feet, for the place where you stand is holy.” And Joshua did so.
The Will of God does not take sides.
Prayer: Lord, thank You for the Holy Spirit that lives inside of those who have accepted Your Son Jesus as Savior. We align ourselves fully with the word of God, Jesus, who is The Way, The Truth, and The Life.
Action: Who’s side are you on? When you look at your actions and your heart’s desires do they align with the will of God? Pray and ask for revelation and clarity in these areas.
