| Last year several of my investments ended up losing significant value, while some became inaccessible due to brokerage insolvency. Fortunately, God graced my portfolio with enough diversity to survive such a catastrophic loss. As I work on rebuilding what was lost, I employ a fairly simple and conservative strategy. Dollar cost averaging, also known as DCA, sets a foundation where incremental contributions on a consistent basis can lead to exponential growth. In Matthew 13:3-8, Jesus tells the parable of the sower who spread his seed in such a way that produces an abundant harvest, despite some seed being permanently lost. Then he told them many things in parables, saying: “A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants. Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop—a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown. Those whose ways are planted in the Lord will always reap a great harvest. |
