Silicon Valley Bank (SVB) made headlines a couple of weeks ago when they were suddenly unable to meet customer withdrawal requests. This prompted California regulators to shut SVB down and place it under the control of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). However, many SVB customers had deposit accounts larger than the FDIC limit, which only covers up to $250,000. In a bold move to bolster consumer confidence and prevent other banks from collapsing, the government made the decision to allow all SVB customers to have access to their funds regardless of the amount. In Colossians 2:13-15, Paul discusses how the death and resurrection of Jesus has made us whole despite the insurmountable debt of sin: When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross. And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross. Jesus has repaid the debt of sin with the guarantee of eternal salvation. |
