This past summer I was listening to the radio when an interesting topic came up.

Is it possible to be in love with two people at the same time?

As the calls poured in, the hosts of the radio show received a number of answers, but most of the callers came to the same conclusion.

In Matthew 6:19-25: Jesus warns the disciples of seeking after the treasures of the world versus treasures in Heaven:

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.

But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.

For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

“The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light.

But if your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!

“No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?

Nothing in this world can compare to what God has for those who love Him.

Prayer

Lord, thank You!

Thank You that is Your love is greater than any person, possession, or material thing on this earth.

Create in me a heart that longs only for the things of God and not of this world.

Action

Have you ever said God is good but I just need (fill in the blank)?

This week meditate and ask God why this thing has created that desire in your heart.

Ask God to realign your heart with His.

DID YOU KNOW? – BREAK BREAD TRIVIA

Most of the callers thought it was impossible to be in love with two people at the same time.

The overriding sentiment was at some point allegiance would have to be given to one person over the other.

Beyond the Bread

Check out a new video supplement to the Break Bread Break Chains Devotional.

I will be going more in depth on this week’s scripture text in Matthew 6.
